I think the pregnancy trimesters are pretty well known by most. But I’ll recap them before you watch the neat videos below.
Pregnancy Trimesters - Weeks Too
I like to say: First is the Worst, Next is Best, Third is Absurd-hopefully for obvious reasons.
- The First Trimester is often considered the hardest for women because of morning sickness and extreme exhaustion. And for good reason! So much change is happening in a very short amount of time that it takes three to four months for some sort of equilibrium to establish itself.
- The Second Trimester is when things get easier. Morning sickness is usually gone by now, you can exercise more and have greater motivation to eat well, and you just plain well feel better! This is also when you have some perks show up, maybe in your sex life and physical changes you’ll start to notice, along with your expanding waistline and bulging belly.
- The Third Trimester is when the days are LONG. You’re so full of baby that it’s like moving a mountain just to get out of bed. Your poor bladder is screaming at you all the time, and you are SO ready to be done, among other things I could list a mile long.
But you don’t have to dwell on those things if you just take things week at a time. Many mothers find it easier to get through their days or weeks when they focus on the little changes their baby is going through, instead of the monstrous months that we as mothers commonly focus on. (See how the month your baby is born in may affect their future too, here.)
So not a thorough read today, but there is much to watch instead. I found a great collection of videos that walk through your pregnancy, week by week, with how your baby is growing and what they look like.
It’s truly fascinating! You can see imagery that can help you visualize your baby’s growth in relation to yourself so that the entire process doesn’t seem so elusive.
My oldest boy understands that mommy has a baby in her tummy. And he’ll often pull up my shirt to try and see it. It’s fun to explain to him why we can’t see him but promise that he’s there.
Then he’ll tell the baby to come out so he CAN see him. So I get to talk about how little the baby still is right now and how much bigger he needs to grow still. So I took out my physiology books from college to show him some pictures. But it’s certainly more interesting for him to imagine what the baby is ACTUALLY like inside.
And I think it’s MUCH more captivating to see how things are inside too. Thus why I encourage you to select from this great video playlist your current week and take a gander. (Use the drop down button next to ‘Playlist’ to pick your week.) Even follow up with the next few weeks after in order to see what there is to look forward to.
I recommend you ALSO few the first four weeks or so because that’s when your baby (just as an embryo then) is barely sprouting to life and undergoes the most change-like watching a seed take it’s first sprouting up to the sky.
You know what the tree looks like, but have you actually watched the seed become the tree? It’s the same with your baby.
Bookmark this post so you can come back each week and check up on baby’s progress. And if you’re having trouble remembering what week you’re pregnancy, make a little ticker you can keep on your social profile or desktop that automatically updates every day. I use Lilypie and made this one:
You’ll enjoy your progress so much more when you take your focus away from that ULTIMATUM of a due date off your mind and just keep going through your baby’s growth instead. Or if you prefer reading, there are many books that can walk you through each week too, like this one:
Find Out What To Expect This Week
So back and relax (maybe in the tub) and just enjoy learning about your baby’s growth, week by week. I find I appreciate the sweet miracle of life far more when I do. What do you think?

I’m really impressed with your writing ablities and also with the structure for
your blog. Is this a paid subject matter or did youu modify it your self?
Anyway stay up the excellent high quality writing, it’s
rare to see a great weblog like this one today..
Everything you see here is written and created by myself, Alisa. I appreciate your comments, thank you!
Sarah, this is so helpful. My husband and I are thinking about having our first baby soon. It is such a blessing I found your site today! How did you first know you were pregnant, did you test constantly or do you just kind of know after awhile? I look forward to reading more.
For me it’s simply realizing that my period hadn’t come and was late. There are so many things you can read about early pregnancy signs even before your missed period. But really, they’re all the same symptoms you can get from your period in the first place. So…..I just always went off of my calendar. I’ve always been one to track my cycle, easy 26 days or so for me. This last baby it was around Christmas and I realized my period hadn’t come. So I just bought a home pregnancy test a few days later and wallah!
Some women have trouble with not getting positive test results with a missed period. But the stress they’re under can actually be delaying their period easily. If you’re ever in doubt, you can have a blood test done in your doctor’s office to verify.
Glad that you found something valuable today. That’s exciting for you to start trying soon. Please let me know if there’s ever anything I can help you with. Thanks Young!
Sarah, I enjoyed a lot reading this article. Very explanatory and detailed. I will surely seek your help when I reach this stage.
I look forward to hearing from you again. Thanks Demi!
Some great info in there really useful. My girlfriend is currently pregnant and we are taking it week by week like you suggest here.
Nearly through that first trimester and the morning sickness is lessening. Looking forward to a bit of 2nd trimester relief before taking on the third!

You’re welcome Scott.
Hey Sarah. I wish this web site was around when I was pregnant. I think it is very interesting to see how the baby grows and looks. You’re right when you say that it gets your mind off the finish line and makes the process more enjoyable.
Thanks, Georgie
When we’re less selfish and focus more on that little joy that’s soon to join the family, it makes all the journey worth traveling. Thank you for your comment, Georgie.
Hello Sarah! I loved this post of yours! The last pregnancy trimester just seems terrifying to me! Women get really big and I think it feels very uncomfortable! I know it’s well worth it though! The story about your old boy wanting to see the baby is just too cute!
I can’t wait for me to get pregnant! Soon I hope!
Thank you for sharing with us!
That’s great you’re excited to get pregnant, most women aren’t. I sure wasn’t at first. Let me know when you are and I can help you along the way. Thanks for sharing, Katerina!

Interesting website Sarah!
Makes me go back and remember the the years of my wife being pregnant with our 4 children.
I always though the 3rd trimester was the hardest. But then I guess everyone is different.
My wife never even had morning sickness but she did gain 90 lbs with the last one and it took her 3 years to shed the weight.
Wow, 90lbs! That’s the most I’ve heard of in a pregnancy. (Don’t tell her I said that, please!) It DOES come off though, mostly naturally. Glad to have brought back some fond memories for you. Thanks Wayne!
Hi Sarah, I am sure many women will find this text useful. In my family we passed this twice, daughters both times. Memory of those times remain with us forever. Jovo
Glad to have stirred up good memories for you Jovo. Thanks for your comment.
Dear Sarah. I have had my share of pregnancy days and I must say that it is the most unique experience of mankind. Thanks for relating the whole journey as it’s the kind of thing that brings back those memories.
Best wishes to you!
Cathy
I agree, Cathy. I’m glad I was able to help you relive good memories. Thanks for your comment!
Hi Sarah, I had my kids a few years back, but I love watching these videos and be amazed by them. Science can explained how a life is formed inside of us women but I can’t stop marveling at the beauty and immense honor of having a life growing inside me. For me the hardest trimester was the third, I felt too heavy and tired. The best was definitely the second.
Glad you like them Ana. I like how you put that, an immense honor, it truly is! Thanks for your comment.
