Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, when asked how you’re feeling during your pregnancy, you’re not going to answer, “Oh, I feel great! I have no complaints.”
Sure, you might not want to discuss personal things with someone who you don’t care to tell at all. Or you may not even be able to think of at least ONE thing that’s good about how you’re feeling right now.
Then you hear about ‘those’ few mothers that just LOVE being pregnant and feel so full of life…..and you want to smack them in the face and say, “Get real!”
But no matter if you sail through your pregnancies flawlessly, or you vow you’re NEVER doing this ever again–there are a few good things about pregnancy that you will enjoy.
I’ll prove it to you.
Eight Good Things About Pregnancy
Now I’m not talking about all the statistically referenced and thoroughly researched medical benefit stuff that you can read about elsewhere (like here).
I’m talking about the little day to day things that we don’t realize unless we think about it. I’m talking about the nice things we get to experience when pregnancy that would be wonderful if we experienced them at any other time.
Now, some of these things vary from pregnancy to pregnancy, woman to woman, and from you to me. But some of these things are also finite, unchangeable and guaranteed. Those ones are the best.
- NO PERIOD! No more pads, liners, wipes, tampons, daily rinsing, cramps, PMS, you name it. There’s no mess to clean up every 28 days with additional walks from taking out the garbage because of increased stuff in the can. I LOVE not having my period for nine whole months.
- Good Hair, Nails and Skin. Now this isn’t true for every mother. Even though the increased estrogen stimulates our exterior to grow healthier, thicker and stronger, (find out when this ends) the nutritional needs of your baby can take things away from you as well. For example: my hair and skin get pretty dry overall, no matter what time of year it is and especially where I shave. I have to use body butter a lot from so my feet don’t crack as easy and my cuticles don’t bleed.
- Bigger Boobs. I think no matter what bust size we have, we all want to be a little bigger. And it even lasts for a few months after giving birth when you’re nursing or just recovering. Yes, you have to get a bigger set of bras, and your breasts can ache for days on end. But I bet you take profile pictures not only for that growing belly. 🙂 This is one of my husband’s favorite things of course, since I am so meagerly endowed.
- We Get To Complain and no one will tell us to stop. There’s always some sort of physical ailment that’s befallen you any day of the week. And we can certainly go on and on about how crappy we feel some days. But the GREAT thing is that everyone will sympathize and not belittle you. It’s actually kind of fun if you know how to use it for your advantage. When I make some little mistake about anything doing with home and family lately, I just take the excuse of “I’m pregnant” and I’ll use it as long as possible.
- You Get To Pamper Yourself because you absolutely DESERVE it. On your daily To Do list be sure to include:
- sleeping in
- morning nap (if needed)
- afternoon nap (definitely needed)
- going to bed early
- take a warm bubble bath
- foot scrub and pedicure
- body butter rub
- herbal tea whenever
- essential oils
- a bowl of ice-cream
- Sex Can Be Better. Thanks to your raging hormones (see a graph here), and especially in your second trimester, your sex drive goes up a notch and your orgasms seem to be fuller (some women even orgasm during birth). PLUS you don’t have to have that condom on, or use whatever form of birth control you were using before because it doesn’t matter; you’ve already scored and are taking care of the first round of success.
- You Get To Eat To Gain Weight instead of eating to lose it. You don’t have to freak out about that extra large portion you had at dinner last night because it’s going to actually help, rather than instantly turn into fat on your thighs, or wherever. But this is IF you’re doing the right things to gain weight properly. Sure you only need an extra 300-400 calories per day, do it’s not really eating for two (dang). BUT being able to snack and eat that afore mentioned bowl of ice-cream once a week or so is perfectly fine. Get more excellent foods to eat here.
- You’re Never Alone. When you start to feel that baby moving inside you, it’s really quite amazing and only something you and your baby can share. They feel what you feel and experience so much more with you than we think about. They may not be able to give you reassurance or support in the way you usually expect it. But your baby completely understands you beyond what we understand ourselves.
So you HAVE to agree with me that there’s at least ONE thing on this list that you DO like or look forward to. I think the best one for me is no period. But I also like that I have a bigger butt too, because I don’t have any natural curves whatsoever when I’m not carrying a load. But some of you probably wouldn’t like that comparison. Pampering is always great too.

Okay, in the comments, I want to hear about what you DO like about being pregnant, or you favorite option from this list. If you’ve never been there, what’s the most you look forward to? Gotta pick something.

Hi, Sarah
I didn’t think there were any good things about pregnancy, lol! From your post, there seems to be a fair few benefits, and especially the eating part too 🙂
I’m sure many pregnant women will love to read this article.
Neil
We just have to choose to recognize the positive things going on, in addition to a wonderful baby growing inside during pregnancy. Thank you Neil.
Hi Sarah,
I agre with everyone, I thoughts the bext part of being pregnant was feeling my baby move or kick and knowing it was a little life.
~D
I like that too, especially in the beginning when you feel anxious if anything really IS in there. But then when they get big and start kicking you bladder and keeping you up at night….I don’t think many moms enjoy that. But it’s certainly one to consider as well. I kind of kept in included in ‘Your Never Alone’ for that reason. Thanks Debra!
I just recently had my baby boy. He is now 3 months old. I love not having my period. I don’t miss the cramps. I’m not a fan of the big boobs though. I am proba ly one of the few who prefers them to be smaller. I liked being able to eat all the time. I was constantly tired so I complained about it a lot. This is a good post and women who plan on becoming pregnantor who are would really like this. I would have.
Congrats on your little one! I’d rather have small breasts too, but having at least a little size to help counter balance the bulging belly helps. Thanks Samantha!
WOW, that is very very positive. Most women I think look at it as negative sometimes, which makes sense. But this is for sure helpful for my wife. Thanks so much
Alex
Is your wife pregnant? Let her know I’m here to help. Thanks for your comment, Alex.
hi Sarah!
I am not pregnant nor was i but I also want to smack pregnant women who just love it…lol! But I can see some pluses in what you just said. The no period and getting to pamper myself would sure be some for me! I mean being pregnant is not easy and is uncomfortable at times. So its good to remember the pluses!
That’s the only way to get through hard days….and hard nights, by remembering the positive things. Thanks Emily!
Good thing I’m a male, again, spares me some of these issues! Glad to know my lady will have a few things to look forward to at least though.
Thanks!

Just remind her of these things a few times when she’s having an awful day. Thanks Matt!
Great article Sarah. Enjoy reading it through. And I wish I were a woman to get pregnant because I’m a man.
Thanks for your comment, Vu.
Sarah –
I love your site! I can tell from the way you write that you are definitely passionate about your chosen niche. Also, reading the Eight Good Things About Pregnancy made me chuckle. I nodded right along, saying, “Yes, yes, yes, that was fun.” Keep up the great work and I’m sure you’ll be a wonderful help to many! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Thanks so much Maria. I’m glad to have brought back at least a few good memories for you. It’s sad when I hear from some women that everything they focused on was negative. It shouldn’t be that way.
What an informative site! I’m glad I came across your site. I will definitely be sharing it.
Thanks, I appreciate it Laura.
