More Details

Written from the mother of all midwives, Ina May Gaskin has lived a lifetime mission towards helping mothers realize that the most expensive option when it comes to something so ordinary as child birth isn’t always the best option.

Her Ina May’s Guide To Childbirth comes with the approach that if mothers will simply look at their role and experiences of birthing their children with the understanding that it can be a very strengthening experience, then their decisions to birth naturally is the only way they can experience the true power that their livelihood has to offer.

The Ina May Guide To Childbirth Review

A third of this book contains real natural birth stories from mothers like you and me.  Many, many variations of the same beautiful story told and experienced by wonderful mothers near and far.

Other valuable resources contained therein include:

  • The powerful connection between the mind and body during birth
  • What is happening to your body during labor
  • How pain and pleasure coincide
  • Discussion on the sphincters in your body and how they function
  • Information you need to know when it comes to your pregnancy and care throughout
  • When labor begins and how it happens
  • The act of giving birth with freely moving about and keeping gravity on your side
  • The strength of your vagina and how it is disrupted with episiotomy
  • The final third stage of labor that is most crucial
  • Relations about midwifery
  • Things you may not have thought about while you’re expecting
  • When you’re having a vaginal birth after previous cesareans
  • Considerations for when you’re picking your caregiver
  • Her future vision about mothers and midwifery

Ina May uses the very backing from mothers gone before, to help those experiencing childbirth for the very first time, to lift and provide the comfort and support needed in such memorable circumstances.  Quoted from her Introduction:

My experiences as a midwife have taught me that women’s bodies still work.  Here is your chance to be exposed to a new understanding of an ancient system of knowledge that you can add to your general understanding of what birth means.

Wherever and however you intend to give birth, your experience will impact your emotions, your mind, your body, and your spirit for the rest of your life.

Presented in a very open minded point of view, Ina May’s Guide provides the secure environment of a natural baby birth through wisdom and experience above matters of direct intimidation.

The positive aspects range from excellent liking of the personal stories shared, to the break down of the mechanisms of birth that our bodies go through.  It seems that the majority of the negative points of view mainly are due to the perspective of mothers expressing their points of view in a manner unnatural to the reader.

But no matter what you read in hundreds of reviews, your own personal feelings about the author’s viewpoint expressed in the Introduction can always shed further light and illuminate the tone of a work in a quick few pages.  You can view the Introduction of Ina May’s Guide by simply clicking the Look Inside link just above the cover image here.

My Thoughts On Ina May’s Guide To Childbirth

I feel that no matter our circumstances or decisions, we ALL experience our births different.  Even when we have the exact same set of medical circumstances and birth timings, etc., we bring to the reality a personalized set of wisdom garnered completely understandable to our individual selves.

The main qualm about this book is that the voice presented is ‘sugar-coated’ or ‘flowered-over’ in a manner that is bothersome to some.  I can understand that.  I believe the way certain perspectives are written and portrayed can always affect certain types of readers negatively.  And that’s only because of our own personal experiences and perceptions that create that barrier of difficulty.

However, approaching this book with the open-minded act of having consideration for this midwife’s years of experience far beyond our own, one is able to more greatly appreciate the intelligence and sophistication this author provides.

Thus I give a rating for this piece 4/5 stars due to it’s intrinsic value far outweighing its minority perceived unrealism.  You can find Ina May’s Guide To Childbirth easily through this link below.

I believe that anyone can just spout text on a page and claim something is worth reading or using. thus the reason why I chose to include other third party information so that you can make the best decisions for yourself about this resource. Thanks for the feedback!

There’s always negatives to consider with any product or set of experiences. I just want moms to be sure they understand what others think and feel so they can make the best decision for themselves. Thanks for your comment, Kristy. Best!
