I personally LOVE the Bradley childbirth method. When I was pregnant the first time I took a Lamaze class, an online Giving Birth Naturally course, and read Dr. Bradley’s book on Husband Coached Childbirth.
Dr. Bradley’s approach focuses on the fact that we are innately animals, mammals. He grew up on a farm, so he studied how mammals gave birth, what they did during their labor and delivery, and applies their characteristics to what we can do as women in order to do the same. If a myriad of natural creatures on this earth give birth every day the same way we do, why shouldn’t we learn from them?
Bradley Childbirth Method - It makes perfectly logical sense because it’s TRUE
One key difference between us and mammals is that we walk uprightly on two legs instead of four, thus the cause of a pregnant mama’s major back pain because all that extra weight is sitting right on our pelvis and lower spine. So Dr. Bradley teaches mothers how to properly carry that weight as we walk, sit and exercise. Exercises particularly that we can do every day to ELIMINATE the back pain because we’re strengthening the right muscles the proper way.
Thinking about how an animal gives birth, they’re VERY particular about their environment. They don’t want anyone near that they don’t know and they DON’T want to be disturbed. The setting is very important, and it also affects us greatly as well. It plays into how relaxed and emotional we are, how we’ll respond to certain things. Thus leading to the key of his methods: how to properly relax and how to do it.
I’m going to post MUCH more about Bradley techniques in future posts. So I encourage you to keep looking.

Now I understand why my other half is always grouchy! She is due anytime soon, so I guess I need to give her some space. Thanks for this.
You just made me laugh, John.
Giving her space is great, but be sure to be there when she needs you too. If she’s due anytime, make sure that you’ve got everything ready for the hospital and what you’ll take with you.
I recommend that she read through these posts: Baby Birth Pushing, it will save you a lot of time during her labor; along with walking as much as possible to reduce her labor pains in this post HERE.
Good luck with everything and let me know how it turns out or if you need anything at all. Exciting for you!
