So I read a headline today: New TLC Show ‘Labor Games’ Quizzes Moms In The Delivery Room, and I just had to read it.
Can you imagine? As part of some week long special, this quick new show that is going to run prior to Mother’s Day seemed to be a big joke originally. But apparently it’s a complete reality that’s going to play out.
TLC’s Labor Games Show
The concept is that while laboring mothers are in the hospital, the game show will present them with seven questions they get to answer. Correct answers win them mega prizes, like a year’s worth of diapers, home cleaning, stuff any new parents would want.
And that’s it. That’s all the detail I can find. Watch below if you don’t believe me:
So this brings up tons of questions for me that I would want answered:
- What kind of questions are these? If this is like a typical game show, you’d think that the questions become increasingly difficult. But these mothers are going to be in labor while this is going on. So are the questions going to be relatively easy due to the fact that a mother’s mind is likely in another place? Annoying that they’re not more specific.
- When contractions come along, is filming going to pause? Or are the realities of giving birth going to be portrayed too?
- If it comes time to push and deliver does the game still continue? I’d say forget it if it were me.
There needs to be more specifics and rules if you ask me. I’m actually quite bugged there’s not more info out there right now about how it’s going to play out. But it could be exciting to watch.
If It Was Me
Honestly, I wouldn’t want all the cameras and lights and people there while I’m laboring. And I certainly would NOT going to stay confined to a bed just for some dumb TV show.
But at the same time, just playing a different game while playing the waiting game until delivery could be quite fun. This time around, I think I’m going to want to do something other than just wait in between those contractions. And playing a game to keep the mind fresh might just be a bit of relief for that.
But when those contractions come and I’m taking a break laying in the hospital bed, the ENTIRE world is NOT important until that contraction is over. Then when it’s time to push, forget all else as well.

Anyway, what do you think about this? Is it ludicrous or hilarious? Far better than that ‘birthing in the wild’ show I’ve heard about too.

I know, it could definitely be worth it if you’re super easy going and don’t mind such intrusion on your life. Which is why I wondered if things are halted once pushing starts, then some privacy may return. I don’t know. Maybe it’s not worth thinking about. Thanks Kris!
I’m not sure about gaming while contracting. I don’t think it will be possible.I think the questions asked could make or break the show. I can imagine humourous questions would bring on humor, which could alleviate some of the focus on the pain.
I honestly might watch 1 or 2 episodes to see how it went. Noot sire I could partivipate though.

That’s funny! I would love to know the answers to all those questions too! I think most laboring woman will get very irritated with all the commotion. Also, I think that this is not a peaceful environment I would want my child born into, not matter what the prize.

I also wanted to say, what happened to all the good shows on TLC? Remember A Birth Story? They had some others that were really good. Now, I have a hard time finding anything. What happened to the “learning” in the learning channel?
Seriously! We canceled our cable a few years ago because there’s so much garbage out there. I would never have known about this without the article I saw. It’s all about ratings I guess, sad.
