So when I started out with gathering baby supplies, I invested a little in some cloth diapers. But they weren’t really good diapers–I just had covers and the inserts you fold.
I ended up not liking them too much and I realized that this area of consumer products meant that usually the higher the price, the better the quality.

My Conclusion
There are pros and cons to any diaper you choose to buy. Loads and loads of research into “What Is The Best Fitting Diaper?” seems to happen ALL the time, disposable or cloth. I’ve read reviews and tried my own, and everyone will have their own experiences and opinions.
Your baby may be a super soaker and work better with a super thick diaper. Another mother’s children may be really petite and have no problem with the bulkiness that ALWAYS comes from a cloth diaper, no matter what brand you buy.
It comes down to what matters most to you.
If cost is the only factor, then it’s either a bit more upfront for the investment, but it will last you through ALL your children, most likely. Or you can count on purchasing and hauling out dozens and dozens of disposable diapers.

Great review, I was wondering. If The inserts are stuffed within the plastic covered diaper. Doesn’t the push inside of the diaper get wet and need changing too. And if that is the case how many would you suggest to have on hand?

Hi Debra, great question. I would suggest at least two to three times as many inserts as covers if you’d rather pull out the wet ones and re-stuff before washing the liner.
But I actually just keep in a single or two inserts and wash the entire liner when one of my boys needs a change. The diaper cover on the inside doesn’t stay nearly as wet of course, with the moisture mostly going to the inserts. But I find that once they’ve emptied a full bladder, you can smell it even after changing out the inserts. So I’ll wash all of them at once instead of changing out inserts. But that’s personal preference.

Thanks for this great review of the Fuzzi Bunz cloth diapers. My wife and I might consider switching to these with our next child. Still a little nervous about them thou.
I was a bit nervous too. I didn’t know how to properly clean them, what if they stained terribly, etc? But the Fuzzi Bunz site talks you though all of that too. They even have an awesome sprayer that you can hook up to your sink and spray the excess poop off into your toilet when things get sticky–MUCH better than trying to put it in a ziplock bag with soap and water to do a pre-wash, SO time consuming that way.
Honestly, just get a few to try out for a day or two and see how things work for you. Like I said, I still have disposables too for when we’re out and about or in the car for a long time, but it still makes a difference. Thanks for your comment, Aaron!

There was nothing like Fuzzi Bunz diapers on the market when my 4 were babies. I used the old fashioned terry nappies with a liner and those rubber pants which left marks around their wee legs!

I hadn’t hread about these diapers, I’m 6 months pregannt and still undecided on cloth or disposable. The cloth ones are so much different from what I remember them to be like. Since reading your article I think I’m leaning towards cloth now.

My wife and I used cloth diapers that were high quality they might have been the Fuzzi Buns actually. They work great and yes you might get some slack from friends and family thinking its odd but it does save a ton of money in the long run.
This was a great review on cloth diapers and I think more people should be using them since it also reduces a lot of waste in the garbage.
