Unfortunately, us preggo ladies seem to have more issues in the bathroom than anyone else on the planet, it seems. Because of multiple things contributing to the difficulty to have proper bowel movements, before AND after giving birth, a bit of help is warranted.
You also know that squatting and getting your legs at a more proper angle greatly increases your natural delivery abilities simply due to how our bodies are built and their natural functioning. But the standard issue toilet lurking in your bathroom INHIBITS that!
What can you do to better your bathroom time so you don’t have to fear the experience? I have the solution….and NO, it’s not the little play potty that your toddler practices with. It’s your own Squatty Potty Toilet Stool.
Best Of Squatty Potty Toilet Stool Reviews
This little stool is designed to prop your feet up as you sit on the toilet. Why? Because your body is designed to squat during elimination (fancy word for poop). Your colon is opened up and relaxed, allowing a bowel movement to easily come through.
I love this video because it clearly explains it visually … but basically, sitting normally blocks the flow through your colon.
So instead of pushing and straining beyond what you need to, causing pain, cramping, and sharp jabs of muscles telling you that you’re doing it wrong–you can relax and let your bowels do it for you, for the most part.

Decreased pressure in your colon and through your anus relieves your already pressurized tissues and sore post-partum bottom (especially if you have hemorrhoids), allowing you to recover quicker, or get through your pregnancy a little easier.
What Can A Little Stool Do For Me?
If you need to see it listed out, here are the many benefits that the squatty potty will provide:
- decreased anal pressure
- decreased cramping and pain during excretion

- decreased pain and bleeding with presence of hemorrhoids
- significant improvement of constipation symptoms
- more complete bowel emptying, increasing colon health
- less bleeding and tearing against post-partum injuries (such as tearing and the need for stitches)
- less need for excessive pushing and bearing down
- faster recovery for post-partum perineal tissue
- decreased urinary flow difficulty for women
- reduction in urinary tract infections
- reduces suffering from pelvic floor dysfunctions
One thing I really like, is that you can read a number of medical case studies here that show scientifically how having the proper body posture and angles provides said benefits.
Other non-medical benefits include:
- durable, can hold 350lbs
- light weight
- and BEST of all, easy to clean
What Others Think
Note, I did find these independent opinions on a separate site than the source so that they’re unbiased in publication. Overall, 97% of reviews from about 1,000 people averaged to a 4.5/5 star rating.
Many people had good things to say:

Then again, there are always negative things that can be said about any product. Here are the worst things I found:

It seems the main thing people had an issue with was simply the comfort in using the Squatty Potty. I can understand that. When you raise your legs up off of the toilet seat, only a small part of your bottom is resting on the seat, a feeling that you may not be accustomed to.
I think also, when many people use the restroom, they actually tense up, wanting to get the act over with quickly. Thus using the Squatty Potty stool may feel more uncomfortable if you aren’t relaxed.
Does One Size Fit All?
There are a few different variations of the original Squatty Potty. Depending upon your toilet height, you can use one designed for taller toilets, or if you’re an experienced squatter. (And I sure hope you are because you’re here to birth naturally 🙂 ) But the standard Ecco version can work in any case because it’s really only a change in 2 inches, and the price is the same either way.

Or if you don’t like the white plastic look, there are a few wooden options: adjustable bamboo or a slim plywood design.

Now, you’re going to pay more for these fancier options, but they are certainly more attractive than the simple plastic. But that’s certainly up to you.
Where To Buy
Yes, you may find the bamboo
or slim wooden options cheaper on Amazon. (I actually couldn’t find the slim version anywhere except the home site.) And you may even get free shipping for your order.
But when you go through my link below to SquattyPotty.com, you can get a discount for purchasing three or more, PLUS free shipping. Think about it…. you likely have more than one bathroom in your home, and your entire family will benefit from using a squatty potty toilet stool, not just yourself. So getting one for each bathroom is best.
Here’s a pricing summary for your reference:
| Squatty Potty – FREE shipping on orders over $45 | Amazon – FREE shipping on certain orders over $35 | |
| Ecco Standard | $25 each OR$20 each when you buy 3+ | $25 each |
| Tao Bamboo | $80 each OR$70 each when you buy 2+ | $70 each |
| Slim | $60 each OR$50 each why you buy 2+ | not available |
For me, the Ecco basic version of the Squatty Potty Toilet Stool works just fine, no matter what height. Since I have three bathrooms in our home, three stools purchased away from Amazon makes the most sense to me.
Having suffered from constipation issues for years and hemorrhoids after having children, this stool for me has been a life saver. Even before I had one, I quickly learned that propping my feet up higher relieved a lot of my discomfort and helped me have much easier bowel movements. But now this design works much better than trying the balance my feet on the garbage can or my boy’s little potty seat.
So I give this product a 5/5 star rating because I know it works!
If you have a big wishlist and want to purchase through Amazon (find it here
), maybe because you’ve only got one or two bathrooms too, completely up to you. But I think you will find that even if you don’t have at least three bathrooms to make the discount more valuable, you may want to give one as a gift.

Now I have to ask…has anyone personally used one of these? It may be a silly topic but it can certainly result in serious outcomes, good or bad. Did it work for you, or no? Having had terrible pain ‘down there’ after giving birth, relief from that alone is reason enough for me.
Happy potty time!

I’ve read some articles that state keeping your knees up, the way these stools cause you to do, is the most efficient and ergonomically correct way to have a bowel movement. So, I can imagine the relief for pregnant women who are plagued by irregularity and constipation.
This is a very thorough review! You’ve clearly researched and know a lot about the product.
Thanks Stephanie. I appreciate your comments.
My wife and I have been talking about doing a natural birth in the near future. This is something that neither of us would have thought about. Such a great idea and perfect to have ahead of time
That’s wonderful, Andrea! You’re already taking the perfect steps beforehand in order to be successful for the birth of your children. Start with proper exercise and everything will fall into place. Let me know if you’re needing help with anything at all and I’m here for you. Good luck!
Hello Sarah,
I’ve been actually thinking of buying one! And here I found al the information I needed. It makes so much sense to have one.
It is not only I that would need one. My son would also benefit to have one.
Thanks for the information and the video.
Marie
You bet, Marie! Let me know how they work out for you and your boy.
Hi Sarah,
It’s a bit silly indeed, but on the other hand, not at all silly; it’s a very natural thing :-).
(except the name though, that really is silly..)
When you think of it, it’s quite logical that squatting is a more natural position; this is how it used to be done in the first place 😉
Kind regards, Martine
Indeed, Martine. Many cultures continue to relieve themselves in such ways still. We western world-ers should do to follow their example. Most things work best as they have from the beginning (like Natural Child Birth) :).
Interesting article, wasn’t aware that these types “squatty potty” existed, the videos is really good, its always good to find out how thing effect health. I’ve certainly learnt something reading your post.
That’s my hope, even for those not pregnant. The Squatty Potty can help EVERYONE. Thanks, Phil! Please share with loved ones.
Hi Sarah, it is good to see someone talking about a subject that is natural for everyone. I never understand why such subjects have to be taboo!!!
Anyway, this is a fantastic invention and when you look at people in the third world countries, they use the squatting position for not only eliminations but for sitting. I am sure that if you were to look at statistics we would find that they have fewer incidents of haemorrhoids and constipation.
Thank you for this product review, I will be considering purchasing one.
Lis.
You’re welcome Lis. You’re quite right. Even in nations that aren’t considered third world, you see it more often. One of my relatives went to China for awhile and marveled at how many of their toilets were simply holes in the floor that you squatted over.
I agree on the sitting part too. And if you want little children play, you find that they squat down and can stay there for long periods of time naturally. Then we ‘modernize’ them out of it with our chairs we live on.
Thanks for you comment!
Great thorough review.
Thanks Marcus!
I understand completely the difficulties our bodies encounter before and after birth, and this subject I close to me. Without knowing I already do put my feet on small baby stool, but nothing like the ones you show here. I’ll have to get one I guess.
I know it will do you some good Ana. If you’d like to share any of your birthing stories, feel free to here on our stories page. Thank you for sharing!
I didn’t know..this kind of product is out there…thanks for sharing this.
Every little bit helps. Thanks for your comment, Demi.
What a great product idea. I wish I would have had one of these about 4 months ago when I gave birth to baby #4. I really like the Bamboo look too. This might be helpful for little ones that are just recently potty trained as well.
It certainly is not limited to adults. Congratulations on your newest arrival! That’s exciting for you. Thank you for your comment, Kimberly.
I realize that this world is developing more high-tech digital products than any other time in the world. Kinda makes you wonder why this ingenious stool was not developed earlier. It looks like it can help not only just women, but men too. I am curious enough to maybe want to find out. Thank you for sharing.
I know, really; it belongs up there with inventing the wheel or something. Let me know how it works for you Ken! Thanks for your comment.
I have seen a product like this on Shark Tank. It is the natural way to go to the bathroom. Thank you for the education about it. This is a must read for everyone!
This IS the same one that was on Shark Tank 🙂
Yes, I agree–everyone should use one no matter of they have elimination issues or not, all can benefit. Thanks Chris!
Lots & Lots of Great info. Very clean & Very Professional website as well. The info and your entire website as well is definitely going to help people out! Big High Five Awesome Post! Love your website!
You’re awesome, Jusuf! Please feel free to share with others you may know that are looking for such topics. Thanks!
Although this article brings back not so pleasant memories of childbirth, I respect the info and wish I had had this stool when I was preggo!
Sorry to bring back bad memories! 🙁
I had a few myself as I was writing. But being able to compare before and after for me–now I know which is definitely better. No mother, or anyone with elimination issues for that matter, should have to suffer even MORE simply because they lack a simple little stool that can make a world of difference.
Thanks for your comment.
hi Sarah
what a fun way to discuss a very unusual topic! I mean definitively not something I would have thought about but very useful information. The video was also quite clear. I can see this stool, quite simple in nature, be helpful for those suffering from constipation or any difficulty “eliminating” as they say 🙂
It sure does, Emily. I think these things need to be talked about more, mind you in a very adult and professional way. Because EVERYONE experiences these things and all can benefit. Feel free to share! Thanks!
Terrific review. I had no idea this product existed. I don’t have kids but will recommend to a pregnant girlfriend. Thank you!
The best thing about Squatty Potty is that you don’t have to be pregnant or postpartum to find benefits with it. But it SURE does help a mommy in times of distress. I would love to hear from your friend. Thanks for sharing Sabrina!
Thanks for the lovely post on the squatty potty toilet. I think that this is the correct way to do it anyway. Keep up the good work.
Your welcome!
Very interesting Product with nice use potential. Will have to send my wife and her friends to your site. Plus it looks great for children to use. Nice Job!
I would love to hear from them, Michael. Thanks for sharing!
