It’s hot out there! And it’s very difficult to keep a baby cool at times like this. It’s hard because they can’t tell you their hot, and all their carriers and strollers can actually hold heat in a stuffy little environment around them if you’re not careful. So what to do?

Today we have Angela from LavidaMom here to help up with just that. She’s got 11 great tips below to help keep your baby cool this summer.

Items For Keeping Baby Cool Listed In This Post

Don’t let the summer heat deter you or your baby from enjoying the warmer season. Below you’ll find 11 smart and simple ways to keep your little one cool and comfortable.

1. Take Them Swimming

Babies love being in the water and you will too! Find a local pool or splash pad where you can enjoy some cooldown time. Don’t forget to pack plenty of sunscreen for you and baby.

You might also consider opting for cloth swim diapers. They’re washable and reusable, which is a huge benefit if you’re going to be at the pool regularly.

2. Dress Yourself and Baby for the Weather

Remember to dress appropriately for the weather and try light and airy clothes for both of you. Even if you use a baby carrier, there are ways to wear your baby in hot weather.

Keep a gel pack in the refrigerator and use that in your carrier. Don’t put it on your baby when it’s ice cold, but softened up and cool to the touch.

3. Use a Portable Fan to Clip on Your Baby Stroller

Taking your baby out in the summer heat can be very draining when the sun is direct. Keep your baby cool and refreshed with a summer fan that clips onto your stroller.

These awesome fans are rechargeable and adjustable. They’ll keep your little one cooled off while you both enjoy the pleasure of the outdoors.

4. Feed Them Frozen Fruit

This is a win-win: your baby eats healthy foods and stays cool in the hot summer weather. Use the famous Munchkin Fresh Food Feeders to fill with frozen fruit such as bananas, mangoes, raspberries, and more.

They’ll love the taste, and you’ll love all the vitamins they’re getting! Just remember to prepare your baby with a strong bib—or skip it altogether and let them eat it in their diaper.

5. Give Them Lots of Small Drinks of Liquid

Always keep water around when you are running errands during the summer months. Even a small sip of water can help your little one stay cool. Veer away from plastic bottles and opt for a reusable stainless steel water bottle that keeps water seriously cold for hours at a time.

6. Use Blackout Curtains

There’s nothing worse than trying to sleep in a hot, sweaty room! Prepare during the day with some amazing blackout nursery curtains.

These kinds of curtains work to keep out the bulk of the sun’s heat during the day, which means your baby’s nursery will be much cooler at night when it’s time to rest. And as we all know, more rest for baby means more rest for moms and dads!

7. Choose 100% Cotton Clothing and Pajamas

The fabric you put on your baby has a huge effect on their temperature. Always go for 100% cotton clothing when dressing your child.

This fabric provides excellent ventilation and allows for air to pass through the clothing, keeping their skin cooled off. It will also prevent the stuffy, uncomfortable sweat that other synthetic fabrics bring.

8. Give Your Baby a Cool Bath

This one is the easiest—and cheapest! Give your baby a bath before bedtime using water that is cooler than usual. This will completely reset their body temperature, preparing them for a good night’s rest, and relaxing their tiny muscles that have been overheated in the day.

9. Playtime at the Water Table

Babies can’t resist the fun that comes with splashing. If your baby is learning to stand on their own, a water table will be a great playtime item. Set the table outside on the lawn so your baby can splash all they want without making a mess or getting hurt if they lose their balance.

An upside to this purchase— during the winter months, baby can still have fun splashing indoors by simply keeping it on the kitchen floor with a mat underneath.

10. Taking Walks in the Cooler Time of Day

A popular misconception during summer days is that noon tends to be the hottest time of day. This belief couldn’t be further from the truth. The hottest time of day happens to be around 3PM and 4PM when the sun’s heat has built up.

Therefore, taking baby on walks soon after breakfast, or right before lunch will allow you to have a pleasant walk. Don’t forget your SPF.

11. Carry a Small Insulated Lunch Box

Whether you’re running errands, going for a walk, or spending the day at the park, carrying a small lunch box with a couple of ice packs is a convenient way to keep your baby’s water-filled sippy cup cool, as well as, fruits like tangerines and grapes that they can enjoy as cold treats.
