Have you ever spent half an hour piddling around on your phone and then realize how much time you wasted?
Some apps are actually great, educational, and useful. Especially when it comes to being pregnant, there are a ton of apps out there that boast that they’re the BEST.
But it’s so annoying how you have to download something, play around with it, and then decided if you even like it or not. Again, time wasted.
Pregnancy Apps To Try
So I did the hard part for you. I’ve compiled the top ten apps and figured out what’s good or bad about them, what I liked or didn’t.
You’ve got enough on your mind. You don’t want to waste more energy just trying to find an app that will help you through your pregnancy and birth. So I did it for you.
Here are the top ten best rated pregnancy apps. I went through them with a fine-toothed comb and listed pros and cons with each.
I stuck to apps that are free. Some of them have pro versions to upgrade to. And they’re all available on either iOS or Android. They are:
- Totally Pregnant
- The Bump
- Glow Nurture
- Ovia Pregnancy Tracker
- BabyBump Pregnancy Pro
- What To Expect
- I’m Pregnant
- BabyCenter
- Pregnancy +
- Sprout Pregnancy
Mainly, I wanted to figure out if they were even beneficial for a mom like you that is getting ready for a natural birth. Then I’ll share which I think was the best or worst for your needs.
And FYI … I had to put in a fake pregnancy due date on all of these so that it actually could track things for me. So I started things based on a due date of September 2017. Then I would sometimes change it to a much sooner due date to see how it would change to third trimester, depending on how the app worked.
So let’s dive in and see, shall we?

Totally Pregnant
☆ RATING: 7/10 stars
Pros
- I liked the spin wheel feature on the home screen, made for great navigation.
- I like the weekly guide about the growth of your baby, it’s detailed and lengthy.
- There’s also a weekly blog post you can read about healthy pregnancy support, exercise, etc.

- It has video yoga classes that are you can get for just a couple of dollars.
- The toolbox has things for your birth plan, registries, contraction counters and more.
- I like the tip of the day and chat spot for engagement with other moms.
Cons
- I didn’t quite know how to access the sections at first, until I realized that you have to tap the blue bold text, like “More About Your Week” in the pic above.
- There’s this distracting, flashing ad bar at the bottom of the screen.
- The video classes offered are only yoga which I don’t feel is great alone if you’re truly preparing for both.
- There’s nothing really about actually giving birth or the process, some expectations in the questions section, but nothing fully explanatory.
Verdict
Overall, I liked it. It was easy to use and a greater first impression than most of the other apps I tried. But as a source for getting ready for your birth, it’s very minimal.

Verdict
This app was alright. I like how it will prompt you to track your habits so that it can help you with your routines. I would probably keep this app on my phone.
Ovia Pregnancy Tracker
☆ RATING: 3/10 stars

- Neat lookup tools for medication questions, food safety, and other things.
- No ads
Cons
- Everything was in metric units and I couldn’t change it to imperial units.
- Small community, and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of interaction inside of it.
- I had to really dig to find the article/video library.
- The profile pic is way too big and takes up half the screen.
- It’s really tedious when entering information.
Verdict
Not that great. The only unique thing about this app that I enjoyed was the baby’s handprint icon. I wouldn’t use this app.

It appears neat, but actually isn’t. The best part of this app was the pre-listed checklists for newborn items that you need. I wouldn’t use this app.
Which Apps Are The Worst/Best?
Most of these apps I think were typical and so-so. Looking at them for specific needs of a natural birthing mom really helped because I could see immediately if it would be useful to you or not.
I think the worst app is the What To Expect app. It’s so ironic how the most common resource for pregnant moms actually isn’t the best.
Now the BEST app that I would recommend from this list would be the Baby Center app because it has the most valuable resources about preparing for and getting through a natural birth.
Then a great runner up choice would be the Totally Pregnant app. If you’re not able to find resources around you to assist with your natural birth, the app will find them for you, which is great!
But if you’d like to get started with preparing for your birth right away, you can always take a course from a momma who knows.

Apps are great, but you will likely need some support outside of your electronic device. That’s where I come in. I would LOVE to help you prepare for your birth. I’m always here and look forward to hearing from you.
Next time I’m pregnant, I know exactly which app I’m going to download. 🙂
Which app do you use for your pregnancy?

I only used an app for my first pregnancy. I did use a contraction tracking app when labor began with all three pregnancies, though, and I was so thankful for it!
It really helps for tracking contractions. My first birth I attempted to do with it my watch, pen and paper and it was a big fail. It was like 4 in the morning and my brain was foggy. I would have relished an app that did it for me. 🙂 Thanks Abby!
